After being initially inspired by the shadows of trees she spotted in the grass, she spent months exploring a process that did not convey the selected object in a two-dimensional form on canvas. It is more like the image has been transformed to its own reproduction which is based on the artist's interpretation. This works best when working with living things or items that are perishable like people or fruits. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is extremely ephemeral the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only piece of Alexa's art that survives is the photograph. The painting and photography techniques are tightly coordinated, resulting in a flat two-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. Certain parts of the image like hair and eyes, display the 3D dimension. Meade frequently incorporates her painted figures in the 3D world around them. They can interact in the world she has created for herself. The lines between performance, photography, and installation is thus broken.
